Sofia Margarita Vergara Vergara was born and lived at Barranquilla, Colombia. The mother of her child, Margarita Vergara Davila de Vergara, has a job as a domestic. Their father Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo has a cow for the meat industry. She has five siblings. She studied at a bilingual, private Spanish/English high school. Following her studies in pre-dental she began working as a model and television industry. Sofia was discovered by a cameraman at the beach and began working in modeling and television. Models were already runway-ready aged 23. Co-hosted the travel program Fuera de serie (1996) from 1995 to 1998. The show brought her attention to the American public. Her first film role was on the crime-comedy Big Trouble (2002). Her most memorable role was Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the American TV show Modern Family (2009). The character she played was nominated for four Emmys between 2010 and 2013. She was awarded Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. Sofia has a home in Los Angeles with her son Manolo.
